O-week
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 (2:24 AM)

University orientation week has started! Today we went to the 'Getting to know my UNSW' talk at one of the lecture blocks. So many people of different races turned up. The lecturers just talked about many general information about the university, etc. Many more orientation programs to come this week. They even include shopping trips with free transport and dinner!

Here are some photos from the past few days. Below is Market City, the place in Sydney which sells the cheapest vegetables.

Exactly like a wet market.

Fruits, vegetables, etc.

We bought many groceries back and this time Elsie cooked our dinner!

Fried egg with carrot.

Ricky serving us rice for dinner.

Today at UNSW I took a photo along the University mall path.

This is Unilodge UNSW, where Ricky, Selene and I are staying until this December. Nice aye?

We cooked instant noodles for supper.

Can't talk that much. Running out of time already! Long day ahead tomorrow. Better go sleep now. Cyaaaa...

Lol crap. This blog post costed me 8 australian cents. Reason is uploading photos take up quite a bit of bandwidth. However normal surfing is totally fine.

Finally, here are some photos of my apartment at Unilodge UNSW!!!! Its a 4-bedroom apartment.

This is my bedroom.

Full-length mirror. Lovely.

My very comfy bed. Only thing the blanket doesn't really block out the cold cos its full of holes like the one I had in camp. So I have to wear long pants when I sleep. The heater does a good job though.

Wardrobe. More than enough space!

Every elevator, every apartment door, and every bedroom door has a security card device. Its really secure here. In other words, if I were to come from outside Unilodge, I will have to insert my security card a total of 4 times to reach my bedroom.

Staircase.

Very spacious hall with comfortable sofas.

Fully-catered kitchen. Only complain about it is that the sink is small, so its kinda hard to wash dishes.

Dining table.

Freaking big balcony. We share it with other apartments.

View from the balcony.

I went to visit an Adventist church here today! Its called Fountain In The City, introduced to me by Jana, who is also studying in Sydney. Service was good. Got to know quite a number of people. Service starts in the afternoon unlike in Singapore which is in the morning. Really weird. Hopefully I can visit their cell group soon.

After the church service I walked past Paddy's Market to meet the rest of my friends.

                                                                 Exploring Sydney
Thursday, July 09, 2009 (9:07 PM)

Here are some photos! I won't be able to upload as many photos as last time as I have very limited bandwidth and I can't waste it too much on of it on photos.

For the past 2 days we've been exploring central Sydney. Has been quite tiring but I feel like I'm on a super long holiday!!!!! Which is kinda bad because school is gonna start really soon lol. My poly mate Ricky who is also studying the same course with me has been bringing us around Sydney on bus. He's quite familiar with the bus numbers and roads so we've had no problem travelling around. Already bought many groceries to cook at home. "Home". I will include photos of my apartment once I have more time.

These are a few of those who sent me off at Changi Airport. Mainly were family, cousins, church members, and a few friends.

This is in Sydney Airport! WOOT! From left. Selene, Elsie, Wayne and me. We all took the same flight together. Journey was 7.5 hours. We bought our phone line there and straight away activated it. I am gonna temporarily suspend my Singapore line until December when I'm back in Singapore for a few weeks.

This is the exploring of my university UNSW! The buildings all look super modern.

Ricky and me. He arrived in Sydney few days ago. Behind us is a notice board in UNSW.

Selene and me =)

The security building.

Erm..... P plate stuck like that??

Monorial in Sydney CBD area.

Ricky was the cook for our first home-cooked food at our apartment.

It was good! Still edible at least =P

This is the exploring of Sydney city!

Darling Harbour.

We went to have hot chocolate at Lindt.

It was gooooooooooooooood. Made my own sort of pattern, like those you see on the internet. Huoahhh I'm such a pro *cough*

Sydney tower!

Monorial in the city.

Harbour Bridge.

OPERA HOUSE. Finally! The most famous monument in Australia! As far as I think.

Alright thats all the photos for now!

                                                                 Woot!
(12:40 AM)

I have reached Sydney! And I have gotten my internet connection! Woah. The internet here is really not bad at all. I actually tried downloading iTunes from the official Apple website, a 70Mb+ file. I downloaded it between 7 to 10Mb PER SECOND! HAH. Even better than at home.

How's Sydney? Its cold at night, especially when the wind is strong. Its been raining on and off ever since I arrived in Sydney. My room in Unilodge UNSW is great! Everything looks new. Already explored University of New South Wales. Its like freaking huge. Every building there looks super new and very modern.

Anyway, I won't be spending much time online already, compared to the past decade when I had unlimited broadband back in Singapore. First reason is that there is no unlimited plans here and its more expensive, secondly, there's no way I'm gonna spend my precious time here in Australia being ONLINE all the time. So yeah!

I'll be back soon again with photos! Ciao~

                                                                 Sydney here I come!
Tuesday, July 07, 2009 (3:09 AM)

Hi everyone. This is my last blog post before I leave for Sydney Australia. I don't know whether I'm able to fall asleep tonight as I'm just too excited already. Not only am I excited but also nervous about university. In other words, I'm feeling a mix of many kinda emotions. But overall I'm good. I applied for UNSW for over a year already and since then I have been mentally preparing myself for this very day! 7 July 2009! I'm just afraid that I'm not prepared in terms of the things I'm bringing over there. Haha. But I've gone through my checklist a million times and I'm confident that I'm bringing everything I need.

I'll be flying together with 3 other friends whom I've met in forums here. Sydney will be around 6 degrees when we arrive at night. Oh my. I better brace myself! Cold weather here I come!

Take care everyone! See you here in my blog and on msn again once I've got access to an internet connection in Sydney!

OMG 7 HOURS BEFORE I REACH THE AIRPORT. 9+ HOURS BEFORE MY PLANE DEPARTS FOR SYDNEY.

Bye mom and sis. Sigh. I'll miss you a thrillion gazillion. I'll see my mom again in December when I'm back in Singapore for a short holiday. But I don't know when I'll see my sis Rachel again, as she's going to be studying in London for the next 5 years. And for the next 2 years our holidays are always at different timings, I think. Will certainly miss her a lot.

Here are some family photos...

The 2 photos below looks as if we're all strangling our pets haha! LOOKS like, but we weren't! Didn't realize till we saw the photos.

From left: Ramen, Raisin, Ruffles.

                                                                 East Coast Park with church
Sunday, July 05, 2009 (8:28 PM)

On Thursday night we went to Terrence's home to celebrate Sophraine's 22nd birthday. Had pizza and cake. Sophraine was like, "Frank, I'm now then same age as you!" I was like, "No leh, I'm forever 21!"

Terrence has WII in his house omg. I did the physical test first. SEE MY BMI IS NORMAL OK. I'm not skinny! Lol.

Sophraine playing the tight rope game. If she bends too much to either side she'll fall down, in the game I mean. There are other games such as boxing, soccer, ice skating, etc.

Tennis was one of the best. 4 players at a time. But we had to be careful not to hit each other with the WII controllers.

After WII we played guitar heroes. Terrence has that too! I thought 'medium' level was too easy so I tried 'hard'. But I got pawned -.-"

Next........

It was a great day yesterday at church. In the morning we had communion service. Then right after the communion we had a testimonial session. After a few others, I managed to say a short one to my church members. Talked about our newly assigned youth positions, also thanked a few people, and lastly I asked everyone to not send me off at the airport because I don't wanna trouble anyone. Lol. I think some are still coming though.

During lunch time.

Chuan Hoe Church went to East Coast Park in the afternoon for a casual outing. All the guys took a photo. Darn they actually tricked me into standing almost in the middle. Right after the photo was taken all the guys grabbed me and tried to throw me into the water. LOL. Probably a "last baptism" before I leave for overseas.

But somehow I struggled a LOT and accidentally hit a few heads with my legs =x Then after a while they decided not to throw me inside. Haha. I was like, no wonder Olivine wanted to borrow both my digicam and my handphone -____-"

Later we all started playing sand. I will never ever be bored of doing that. And then, I made this sculpture of shit. HAHAHA. (inspired from internet). Isn't it the most beautiful piece of shit you've ever seen? I feel so vulgar. Anyways...

Then the rest helped to build a barrier around the pile of shit, cos the waves were pretty strong. Isn't it like freaking big? A number of people on the beach were staring at us, probably thinking, "some group of retards".

Later the guys got bored and they started throwing sand at each other. I didn't get myself involved.

Jeremiah's so cute. He's a Phillipino.

At night around 6pm we left East Coast Park and went back to our church for dinner. After that we had a durian feast! Orielle started distributing the durians.

Everyone's a durian lover.

Shioooooook. Sydney should also have durians. Maybe not as good? We'll see!

Later I took some photos with my good pals.

From left: Suresh, Shi Rong, Hydon.

Simon.

From left: Terrence, me, Ji Long. And at the top of the below photo, Shi Rong's mouth, cut off purposely by the camera man Hydon.

One of my best buddies from birth ever, Hydon. He bought me this t-shirt and he wore his too. Haha. Thanks dude.

Today about 8 of us met up to watch Tranformers 2. My second time watching it. I almost fell asleep near the end. Haha. Not because its boring but cos I was pretty tired, and obviously I've watched it before.

After that I met up with a few of my ex poly classmates for lunch at Ministry of Food at Bugis Junction. From left: Lian Wei, me, Clarence.

The salmon-rice hot plate was good man. The hot plate constantly kept the food warm and also cooked the salmon.
